Artist of the Week: Madonna
Music

Earning the title of Queen of Pop obviously comes with a heavy burden, but the songstress always manages to overcome that with her consistency in making her music 'current.'

AceShowbiz - Having been active in the music industry for more than 40 years, Madonna has collected more than 300 million records worldwide and numerous awards throughout her career, earning her the title Queen of Pop. The title obviously comes with a heavy burden, but the songstress always manages to overcome that with her consistency in making her music "current."

Madonna is currently preparing for the release of her upcoming album "Madame X", which is named after her alter ego whom she describes as a "secret agent" who keeps changing identities to fight for freedom and bring light to dark places. As already mentioned above, Madonna has always been releasing songs that feel "current," so for her album, she taps several musicians who are currently trending among music fans.

Her first single "Medellin" featured Maluma, while the second single off the album, "Crave", had Swae Lee as the featured artist. Both songs were well received by fans and music critics, with the latter song achieving her highest debut on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. It launched at No. 19 as El Hunt of NME called it a "breezy, low-key moment which nods vaguely back towards the heartbreak of her 1989 album 'Like a Prayer' and yet sounds nothing like it."

"Madame X" will be making its way out on June 14. In support of the album, Madonna is set to embark on an all-theater tour which will be held across cities in North American and Europe. This will be the first time for the singer to be touring small venues since her "The Virgin Tour" in 1985. While this move seems a bit strange given that Madonna is a big artist, she has been expressing her interest in doing a smaller-scale show.

"I've done so many shows--world tours, stadiums, sport arenas--you name it that I feel like I have to reinvent that now. I like doing intimate shows and being able to talk directly to the audience," she said at the time.

The tour will kick off on September 12 at Howard Gilman Opera House in New York City and conclude on March 1, 2020 at Le Grand Rex in Paris, France.
