Director F. Gary Gray has been tapped to helm the hit video game franchise, which was first introduced in 2006, with 'Mortal Kombat' reboot screenwriter Greg Russo attached to pen the script.

AceShowbiz - Director F. Gary Gray has been tapped to adapt hit video game franchise "Saints Row" for the big screen.

Screenwriter Greg Russo, who is working on the reboots for "Mortal Kombat" and "Resident Evil", will pen the script for the action-adventure movie, which "The Fate of the Furious" filmmaker will direct, reports IGN.

The popular games, which are similar to the "Grand Theft Auto" series, revolve around the activities of the Third Street Saints gang, which was first introduced to fans in 2006.

Three "Saints Row" sequels have since been released, with the most recent, Saints Row IV, hitting stores in 2013.
