In addition to becoming the fastest to reach $1 billion worldwide, the final 'Avengers' movie breaks numerous records, including the most pre-sale ticket sales record and the widest release.

AceShowbiz - The massive success of "Avengers: Endgame" is beyond infinity. The highly-anticipated movie has shattered numerous box office records within days of its release, easily topping the North American box office chart.

The Russo brothers-directed flick debuts at No. 1 with an estimated $350 million, marking the biggest opening weekend ever domestically. It breaks the record previously held by "Avengers: Infinity War" with $258 million.

The movie also breaks a similar record overseas with an estimated $859 million from international markets. It surpasses the $443 million previously set by "The Fate of the Furious" in 2017 for the biggest opening weekend internationally.

With a current global total of $1.2 billion, "Endgame" has the biggest worldwide opening, breaking the record previously set by "Infinity War" with $640 million last year. The final installment in "The Avengers" film series also beats its predecessor to become the fastest to reach $1 billion worldwide in only five days, after "Infinity War" crossed the mark in 11 days.

Among other records set by the movie are the biggest opening weekend in 44 markets across the world, including China, the U.K., Korea, Mexico and Japan, most pre-sale/advanced ticket sales records, the widest release (4,662 theaters), top market share (90%), biggest global 3D sale, biggest global IMAX opening, and the highest per theater average in North America.

Reacting to the movie's box office performance, directors Anthony and Joe Russo express their gratitude to fans on Twitter. "We want to thank everyone who's been on this journey with us. We grew up in a big, loving family where stories were told at the dinner table to entertain each other. We now get to tell those stories to the world. All because of you...," they wrote.

Meanwhile, Disney chairman Alan Horn credited Marvel Studios and its president Kevin Feige for the massive success. He said in a statement, "This weekend's monumental success is a testament to the world they've envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world."

Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for Comscore, weighs in on the long-lasting effect of the excitement over "Endgame", "This has got to be the biggest weekend in popcorn history. Think of the gallons of soda and the hot dogs sold. This is going to continue all week and beyond. This is going to have long-term playability."

Already getting a boost from the release of "Endgame" is another Marvel superhero movie, "Captain Marvel", which rises to No. 2 from No. 4 with an estimated $8 million. Last week's champion "The Curse of La Llorona" drops two spots to No. 3 with an approximate addition of $7.5 million.

"Breakthrough" falls one place to No. 4 with approximately $6.3 million. Pushed aside by the fanfare surrounding the epic Marvel movie, DC/Warner Bros.' "Shazam!" drops from No. 2 to No. 5 with an estimated addition of $5.5 million.
