During a visit to 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', the 'Room' star recalls what kind of person she was before going on a gruelling nine-month training to prepare herself for the superhero film.

AceShowbiz - Actress Brie Larson knew she was physically ready to take on her first big action blockbuster in "Captain Marvel" when she could push her trainer's Jeep by herself.

The "Room" star admits she was far from the athletic type when she was first cast as the Marvel comics superhero, so she had her work cut out as she embarked on a gruelling nine-month training regimen to get herself fighting fit.

"This (being sporty) is like a new thing. I was super not athletic. I was like a 'Can you open this water for me?' person, and then like, a year ago I just got really (bulked up)," she told U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

"I trained for nine months, and then I was able to do crazy things. I could deadlift 225 pounds by the end of it...".

Brie recruited top celebrity trainer Jason Walsh to help transform her body, and they decided the ultimate measure of her strength would be if she could single-handedly push his Jeep along a road, using pure muscle.

"The ongoing joke with him, because 'Captain Marvel' can move planets, I was like, 'I just wanna be able to push your car. If I can just push your Jeep, then I'll feel like I was ready'," Brie recalled.

Eventually, the Oscar winner, 29, managed to achieve the feat: "And so, it happened! There was a day when I did it," she beamed.

And the Jeep, which weighs around 4,100 pounds (1,860 kilograms), wasn't empty.

"It's got a full tank of gas in it too, just for the record," she added, "and a person (sitting behind the wheel in case)...".

The fitness feat was a huge milestone for Brie, as she had harboured some reservations about taking on the part of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel.

"I was an introvert with asthma before this movie," she previously told Entertainment Weekly. "I really thought when they hired me, 'I am the worst choice for an action movie.' And I didn't know that I had a little Keanu Reeves in me! Who knew?".

"Captain Marvel", which is set in the 1990s, hits theatres in March, weeks before "Avengers: Endgame, in which her character also features, premieres in late April.
