Returning to the romantic comedy genre after 10 years, the 'Deadpool' star expresses his excitement to work with director Jason Moore on the 'refreshing and surprising' project.

AceShowbiz - Ryan Reynolds is returning to the world of romantic comedies after saying "I do" to a "Shotgun Wedding".

The "Deadpool" star has signed on to lead the cast of the new project, an action-filled love story about a bride and groom whose dream destination wedding is taken over by criminals.

According to Deadline.com, "Pitch Perfect" director Jason Moore will take charge of the movie, which Ryan will also produce alongside Mandeville Films chiefs Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman for Lionsgate.

"I haven't done a romantic comedy since 'The Proposal' but I just fell in love with 'Shotgun Wedding'," the actor shares in a statement, referencing his 2009 movie with Sandra Bullock. "It's so refreshing and surprising. I can't wait to bring it to life with Jason, Todd, Dave and the great team at Lionsgate."

The new gig will reunite Reynolds with Mandeville Films producers after previously teaming up for "The Proposal".

"We've been looking for an opportunity to reteam with Ryan," Lieberman and Hoberman add. "He's a rare actor who can do it all and we are so excited to have found the right film for all of us. It's great to be working with the talented Jason Moore and our great partners at Lionsgate."

The project marks a return to the romantic comedies Ryan had become known for earlier on in his Hollywood career, having starred in films like "Chaos Theory", "Just Friends", and "Definitely, Maybe".

However, the actor, who, in real life, is married to actress Blake Lively, has since firmly established himself as a leading action man, tackling more recent movies like "The Hitman's Bodyguard" and his hugely successful "Deadpool" franchise, as well as Michael Bay's upcoming release, "6 Underground".
