The Queen biopic surprisingly eclipses clear favorite 'A Star Is Born' for the coveted prize, bagging a total of two awards from the Sunday, January 6 show.

AceShowbiz - "Bohemian Rhapsody" cast and crew can now declare themselves a champion. The biopic about Queen's frontman Freddie Mercury was a big winner at the recently concluded 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards with a total of two prizes.

The movie beat out heavily favored "A Star Is Born" as Best Motion Picture - Drama in a show full of surprises. Its lead star Rami Malek additionally edged out "A Star Is Born" star Bradley Cooper for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama title.

Meanwhile, Cooper's co-star Lady GaGa lost the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama trophy to Glenn Close for her portrayal of Joan Castleman in "The Wife". The 71-year-old actress herself was completely stunned by her win, freezing for a few seconds on her seat after she was announced as the winner.

GaGa didn't come home empty handed though as she earlier bagged an award for Best Original Song - Motion Picture for the film's song "Shallow", which she composed with Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt. She tearfully accepted the prize. "As a woman in music, it is very hard to get taken seriously," she said, adding that her three male co-writers "lifted me up."

Also winning multiple prizes was "Green Book", which led in terms of number with three. It won Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for Mahershala Ali and Best Screenplay for Peter Farrelly, Nick Vallelonga and Brian Currie.

Olivia Colman won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, for her portrayal of Queen Anne in "The Favourite", while Christian Bale won the prize in the male category for his portrayal of vice president Dick Cheney in Adam McKay's "Vice (2018)".
