The streaming giant, which famously never releases viewership data, announces that the post-apocalyptic thriller has been watched by over 45 million accounts in its first 7 days.

AceShowbiz - Sandra Bullock's recently released movie "Bird Box" is a new hit on Netflix. Clearly proud of the film's performance, the streaming giant which famously never releases viewership data has taken to its official Twitter account to announce that "Bird Box" has set a new record as the most-watched movie in its first 7 days on Netflix.

"Took off my blindfold this morning to discover that 45,037,125 Netflix accounts have already watched Bird Box - best first 7 days ever for a Netflix film!" the company tweeted on Friday, December 28, a week after the movie was released on December 21.

The movie, which was directed by Susanne Bier, surprisingly became people's top choice on their watchlists despite its post-apocalyptic theme which has nothing to do with the holiday season. The movie received mixed or average reviews.

Drawing comparison to John Krasinski's "A Quiet Place", it explores humans' fear enticed by their vision. Bullock plays Malorie, a mother of two children who must make it through a forest and river blindfolded to avoid supernatural entities and reach a sanctuary.

The Oscar-winning actress recently talked about how the movie relates to her. "It is about family in a sense, in that 'sight' has us choosing things based on a preconceived notion of what that image must be like, when in fact it’s the exact opposite," she explained. "And here are these people who have that taken away, and you are actually given the family that is going to take the best care of you, that wants to take care of you, that wants to be there for you, and how that that looks is very different from what most people expect."
