Receiving 548,000 votes, the 'Love Bites' hitmakes comes ahead of Stevie Nicks and Todd Rundgren who place second and third respectively.

AceShowbiz - Def Leppard are on course to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after topping the fan voted section of the ballot.

The British rockers received 548,000 votes, 120,000 more than the 428,000 their nearest rival, Stevie Nicks, received. American multi-instrumentalist Todd Rundgren was third with 365,000 votes.

Although their impressive fanbase stands them in good stead for inclusion in the class of 2019, they are not guaranteed a spot as a panel of 1,000 experts, including Hall of Fame members, decide the inductees in a final ballot. Five honourees will be announced on Thursday, December 13.

The top five artists in the fan vote do receive an extra nomination, and no artists who have topped the public poll have been excluded since its introduction in 2012.

The other two acts to get a boost from fans are psychedelic pioneers The Zombies, and goth rockers The Cure. Other 2019 nominees include Janet Jackson, Radiohead, Roxy Music and LL Cool J.

Those announced as the Class of 2019 will be formally inducted at a ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in March.
