Alongside Quincy Jones, the 'Ready Player One' director and the media mogul will serve as producer of the new movie musical based on Alice Walker's 1982 book.

AceShowbiz - Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Quincy Jones are bringing "The Color Purple" back to the big screen.

Spielberg directed and produced the 1985 film version, based on Alice Walker's 1982 book about an African-American woman in the American South, who struggles to rebuild her life after years of abuse.

It also inspired a Tony-winning Broadway musical adaptation, which the filmmaker will now produce, alongside Jones and Winfrey, who starred in Spielberg's movie.

A production date has yet to be set.
