When asked about his opinion on the ongoing royal drama, the singer says, 'I think everybody's got family members that they wish would keep quiet.'

AceShowbiz - John Legend sympathises with Meghan Markle, Duchess Of Sussex, after her family criticised her in the media.

Thomas Markle, father of the former "Suits" star, made headlines around the world when he gave disparaging interviews about Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry.

And the "All of Me" hitmaker, who is married to model Chrissy Teigen, understands the family drama the new royal has to contend with.

"I think everybody's got family members that they wish would keep quiet," John said on The Sun's Dan Wootton Interview podcast. "Particularly if you come from a pretty humble background, you don't grow up expecting to be famous and to be held accountable for every family member that you have."

Meghan was dealt an embarrassing blow when her father sold photos of himself shopping for a suit in the run up to her wedding to Prince Harry in May. He then failed to attend her big day after suffering a heart attack, and has since spoken to various media outlets, criticising his daughter for allegedly isolating him.

John added: "And you know, you can't control all their actions and sometimes they might embarrass you and who among us doesn't have family members that might embarrass us?"

The father-of-two had a similar experience to Meghan, after one of his cousins tried to raffle off tickets to win a Christmas dinner with him.

"I shut it down and then, you know, told her: 'You can't do that'," he recalled. "But you know, you just have to deal with this sometimes. Everybody's got family members that could embarrass them. Even royalty."
