The project will centre on military hero Jan Zizka, who defended his country against the Teutonic Order and the Holy Roman Empire in the 1300s and 1400s.

AceShowbiz - Newlywed Ben Foster has been cast to lead historical action drama "Medieval".

Czech filmmaker Petr Jakl will direct the film, which starts production this autumn in and around Prague, based on his own screenplay.

The project will centre on military hero Jan Zizka, who defended his country against the Teutonic Order and the Holy Roman Empire in the 1300s and 1400s, while romancing an heiress.

"I loved this script and loved Petr's first two movies," producer Cassian Elwes says. "I think he's going to do a fantastic job on this film. And I couldn't be more excited to work with Ben Foster again, after my experience with him on Ain't Them Bodies Saints. He's one of the greatest young actors working right now."

The role will be Foster's first since he married actress Laura Prepon earlier this summer.
