Words are Disney has been thinking about rehiring the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' director for the third installment following support from the main cast.

AceShowbiz - Disney might have a change of heart about firing "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn over his old rape and pedophile jokes. Following support from the movie's cast and fans, the studio is reportedly considering to rehire the director for the third installment.

According to The Hashtag Show's writer Skyler Shuler, Disney plans a meeting with Gunn. The company is reportedly "taking its time with this situation," but "reinstatement is possible."

The news comes after the main cast, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista and Vin Diesel, signed an open letter in which they declared their support for Gunn. Karen Gillan, the director's brother Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker and Pom Klementieff also signed the letter, urging Disney bosses to rehire Gunn.

"We were all shocked by his abrupt firing last week and have intentionally waited these ten days to respond in order to think, pray, listen, and discuss," the letter read. "In that time we have been encouraged by the outpouring of support from fans and members of the media who wish to see James reinstated as director of Volume 3, as well as discouraged by those who were so easily duped into believing the many outlandish conspiracy theories around him."

"Each of us looks forward to working with our friend James again in the future. His story isn't over - not by a long shot," it continued. "There is little due process in the court of public opinion. James is likely not the last good person to be put on trial. Given the growing political divide in this country, it's safe to say instances like this will continue, although we hope American from across the political spectrum can ease up on the character assassinations and stop weaponizing mob mentality."

Pratt posted the letter on his Instagram page and wrote in the caption, "Although I don't support James Gunn's inappropriate jokes from years ago, he is a good man. I'd personally love to see him reinstated as director of Volume 3."

Previously, fans launched a Change.org petition demanding Gunn's reinstatement. The petition has gained over 300,000 signatures.

Gunn was fired by Disney after his old jokes which made light of sensitive subjects like rape and paedophilia were unearthed. He later apologized for his immature past, but Disney decided to distance themselves from the filmmaker. The company, however, has not announced his replacement.
