AceShowbiz - "Game of Thrones" star Will Tudor has been cast as English ice skater Christopher Dean in a new TV movie.

The actor will play Dean opposite Poppy Lee Friar, who will portray his longtime partner Jayne Torvill, while Anita Dobson will play Torvill's first coach in the drama.

Torvill and Dean were among the biggest stars of ice skating in the 1980s, picking up British, European, world, and Olympic medals during their heyday.

Stephen Tompkinson has also been tapped to play Torvill's father and Dean Andrews, Christine Bottomley, and Jaime Winstone will also appear in the project, written by William Ivory.

"Chris and Jayne are such fascinating characters: sports people and athletes with all the grit and determination that entails, but real artists, too, engaging in deeply felt creative and emotional battles," Ivory says.

"We feel very honoured that ITV (TV bosses) have commissioned this film based on what was a very significant period in each of our lives," a statement from Torvill and Dean reads. "We have thoroughly enjoyed the time we have spent with William Ivory... sharing experiences of our passion for skating, the lifelong friendship that came through our sport and everything that it took to achieve our eventual goal of becoming Olympic champions."

Gillies MacKinnon will direct the film, which is slated to begin later this month.
