The 'Avatar' actor makes the donation through his family's foundation to help support immigration lawyers fighting to reunite migrant kids and their parents.

AceShowbiz - Actor Stephen Lang has donated a $100,000 (£75,300) grant through his family's foundation to help support immigration lawyers fighting to reunite migrant kids and their parents.

Over 2,300 children have been separated from their families following the implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial zero-tolerance policy, which allowed law enforcement agents to tear minors away from their parents and detain them after illegally crossing the Mexican border into the U.S.

Trump has since signed an executive order to end the divisive immigration policy, but hundreds of families have still not been reunited.

Many celebrities are looking into ways to lend their support and the "Avatar" star is now joining them by handing over his grant to organisers at Immigrant Justice Corps (IJC), who help to send legal representatives to work for the separated families.

The Eugene M. Lang Foundation was formed by Stephen's late father Eugene, and he wanted to help IJC because his grandfather was an immigrant from Hungary.

"It's a cliche, but it's still absolutely a fact that this country was built on the back and sweat of immigrants," Lang says. "It seems to me that the current administration has chosen to ignore that, completely in the name of some kind of privileged view... This nation belongs to all of us..."

"This is a time of catastrophe right now, and what (IJC is) doing is absolutely vital," he adds. "(The current policies) are repudiating the fundamental principles this nation was founded on. I think that they are anti-life, anti-liberty, and they are certainly, most definitely, anti the pursuit of happiness... and they are having a direct effect on the lives of thousands and thousands of people."
