AceShowbiz - The man accused of shooting up Lil Wayne's tour bus in April, 2015 has had his conviction overturned.
Jimmy Carlton Winfrey had served three of a 10-year sentence when Georgia Supreme Court officials ruled Cobb Superior Court Judge Mary Staley Clark crossed a line when she pressured and "impliedly threatened" him to take the plea deal.
Winfrey, aka Peewee Roscoe, pleaded guilty to the drive-by shooting, but appealed his conviction in February, arguing that Clark coerced him into taking a previously rejected plea deal, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In court back in 2015, she told the accused, "This opportunity is going away. Go to trial and you get convicted there’s not going to be any of me being concerned about when you parole out. I will not be concerned about when you parole out."
He was initially indicted on 30 counts but he pleaded guilty to violating six charges of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.
Winfrey's conviction was overturned on Friday, June 29. He will remain in custody as his case goes back to court, where he will decide between taking another plea deal or demanding a new trial.
Winfrey was Bryan 'Birdman' Williams' tour manager at the time of the attack on Lil Wayne's bus. The rap mogul and hir protege were caught up in a bitter feud at the time. Birdman has denied any involvement in the shooting.
