Scott Beck and Bryan Woods are tapped to pen the script of 'The Boogeyman' movie adapted from King's short story.

AceShowbiz - Another Stephen King work is coming to big screen. An adaptation of the prolific author's short story "The Boogeyman" is in the works with "A Quiet Place" writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods working on the script.

According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox is currently finalizing a deal for the project. 21 Laps' Shawn Levy Dan Levine and Dan Cohen are on board as producers. 21 Laps has produced some hit projects, such as Netflix's "Stranger Things" and the "Night at the Museum" franchise. Its upcoming movie releases include "Kin" and "The Darkest Minds".

First published in 1973 and later released as part of the 1978 short story collection "Night Shift", "The Boogeyman" takes place in a psychiatrist's office and follows a father who recently lost all his children to an otherworldly creature that lurks in the closets of his home. The story has been a favorite of short filmmakers, having been adapted into shorts seven times.

Choosing Beck and Woods as the scribes for "The Boogeyman" feature film is no surprise, since King previously sang praise for the screenwriter duo. The author called "A Quiet Place" "an extraordinary piece of work" in a tweet. Beck and Woods shared the screenwriting credit with John Krasinski, who directed and also starred in the horror hit.

Paramount is developing a sequel to "A Quiet Place", but details of the second movie are not immediately available, including whether or not Krasinski will be back at the helm and if Beck and Woods will return to pen the script.

"The Boogeyman" will be the next King's work getting a movie or TV treatment. It joins the likes of "It", "Pet Sematary", "The Bone Church", "The Stand", Hulu's "Castle Rock" and Amazon's new "The Dark Tower" series. "It" sequel is currently in the works for a 2019 release after the first movie became the biggest horror movie in history with a worldwide gross of $700 million.
