AceShowbiz - Eddie Murphy is returning to the big screen after two years to play late "Dolemite" star Rudy Ray Moore.

The "Dreamgirls" star was last seen in 2016's Mr. Church and now he will star in the movie, which will begin filming on June 12. Hustle and Flow's Craig Brewer will direct the film, while Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski have written the script.

Moore got his idea for the "Dolemite" films while working at a record store in Hollywood, where he would hear stories about a pimp and hustler named Dolemite. He began performing as Dolemite in clubs and sold records of his acts, which enabled him to finance the 1975 film Dolemite. The movie spawned three sequels and is now considered a cult classic.

It is unclear when the movie will be released, but Murphy is slated to reprise his role as Axel Foley in the fourth instalment of the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise. However, a release date has not been announced.

He will also be seen in the "Twins" sequel "Triplets" alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.
