The group's late frontman, Michael Jackson, will also be honored with his own street, Michael Jackson Avenue.

AceShowbiz - The Jackson 5 are to be honored in Detroit, Michigan with the key to the city. The event will mark the 50th anniversary of the family group's decision to sign with the city's fabled record label Motown, and their performance around company founder Berry Gordy's swimming pool.

The group's late frontman, Michael Jackson, will also be honored with his own street, Michael Jackson Avenue, as part of the second annual Detroit Music Weekend in June. The surviving Jackson brothers, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon, will headline the festival and receive the key to the city.

At the official announcement on Thursday, May 17, Marlon told Billboard the street honor was "supposed to be" named for the entire group, adding a change is expected: "I think it is going to be that," he says. "There was a mistake."

A Detroit city ordinance requires any honorary street naming to be for an individual only, but sources insist talks are underway to allow for an exception. Aretha Franklin was the recipient of a street naming ceremony before last year's Detroit Music Weekend.

This year's event will also feature performances by former Grand Funk Railroad frontman Mark Farner, actor Jeff Daniels and his son Ben Daniels' Band, and the Craig Brown Band.
