The boybander hopes to 'disrupt country' by recording a new solo album full of Chris Stapleton-type tunes.

AceShowbiz - Backstreet Boys star A.J. McLean is hoping to "disrupt country" by recording a new solo album full of Chris Stapleton-type tunes.

The boyband veteran admits his group's 2017 "God, Your Mama and Me" collaboration with Florida Georgia Line had a big affect on him and now he wants to score a few country hits. "I want to come in and I want to disrupt country," the singer tells Entertainment Tonight. "I want to shift. I want to shake things up just like FGL did."

McLean prepared for his new musical adventure by joining the Country Music Association and announced his arrival in Nashville, Tennessee with a press release that read, "There's the AJ McLean you think you know: the trendsetter and member of one of the most successful groups of all time... Then there's the real AJ McLean, the ultimate trendsetter and a raw singer-songwriter, an artist dripping with soul and bare emotion."

Pressed for more details about his country sound, A.J. claims his new music has a "soulful kind of Chris Stapleton/Sam Hunt vibe."
