Another report suggests that Nikki was the one who pulled the plug on their relationship as she doesn't need 'a pity wedding' and 'a pity husband.'

AceShowbiz - John Cena and Nikki Bella’s recent split was a shock to many, but it seemed like John had no intention to be in a permanent relationship with Nikki. Back in a November 2013 episode of "Total Divas", the WWE star made Nikki sign a crazy 75-page contract before they moved in together.

John compared it to "buying a handgun for home defense." The 40-year-old actor/athlete continued telling Bella's brother JJ Garcia, "It gives you a sense of security and it gives you a fail-safe in case something happens. And those who buy a handgun for self-defense pray, pray they never have to use it. Without it, it's a dog fight. With it, it is very easy."

In the contract, Nikki was referred to as a "guest," making her second-guess where she stood in John's heart. "I just don't understand it. I just don't know what to feel. I'm so confused," the 34-year-old beauty said to her sister Brie Bella. "I love John but maybe he knows that he doesn't want to be with me forever?"

Nikki continued saying, "Is that all I'm ever going to be in [John's] heart, is a guest? Am I ever going to have that permanent spot in the rest of [his] life?"

In his defense, John said, "Although I do not wish to be formal, I do not want there to be any misunderstanding regarding your presence at the home as my guest. In the event that I ask you to vacate the home, you agree to immediately vacate the home and removed any and all items you have brought into the home as soon as possible."

A new report, meanwhile, suggests that Nikki was the one who pulled the plug on their relationship though they allegedly had planned a wedding in May. "Nikki is an amazing, talented, strong, one-of-a-kind woman. Anyone would be lucky to have her in their life -- yet John acted more and more like he was doing her a favor by somehow conceding to go ahead and marry her," a source tells PEOPLE.

"[Nikki] doesn't need a pity proposal, a pity wedding, a pity husband," the source continues. "She's a phenomenal, tremendous woman."

Some people found it hard to understand about John proposing Nikki in front of 70,000 fans while he had been vocal about not wanting to get married and have children. "It's hard for anyone not to wonder why he did it, and did it in this hugely public way, in the literal arena where he is most popular," the source says. "He knew exactly what sort of response he would get by doing that."

"All the subtle and not so subtle ways he kept referencing what hard work it was to be in a relationship, all the ways he never wanted to change, how they didn't need to see each other than often, etc.--it was just so hurtful," the source concluded.
