The Weeknd Seemingly Shades Selena Gomez on Surprise EP 'My Dear Melancholy'

Fans believe that the Canadian singer throws major shade at his actress ex-girlfriend on songs such as 'Call Out My Name' and 'Privilege'.

AceShowbiz - It has been almost two years since The Weeknd released his last album "Starboy", but fans have been treated to new music from the Canadian singer. The Weeknd surprise-released a six-song EP titled "My Dear Melancholy" on Thursday, March 29.

The surprise effort includes tracks such as "Try Me", "Wasted Times" and "Call Out My Name". The latter track has many fans wondering if the singer is singing about ex Selena Gomez. Some fans even suggest that the song could be a direct reference to Selena's kidney transplant, which occurred a few months before the couple broke up.

"I said I didn't feel nothing baby, but I lied/ I almost cut a piece of myself for your life/ Guess I was just another pit stop," he rhymes in the song. "Til' you made up your mind/ You just wasted my time/ You're on top."

He seemingly sings about Selena again in "Privilege", which many fans speculate is a jab towards the songstress for rekindling her relationship with Justin Bieber soon after she and The Weeknd called it quits.

"Enjoyed your privileged life/ 'Cause I'm not gonna hold you through the night/ We said our last goodbyes/ So let's just try to end it with a smile," he croons. "And I don't want to hear that you are suffering/ You are suffering no more/ 'Cause I held you down when you were suffering."

But it appears that Selena is not the only girl whom The Weeknd sings about in the EP. It is suggested that "Wasted Times" finds him singing about Selena and Bella Hadid. Earlier in the song, he sings, "Wasted times I spent with someone else/ She wasn't even half of you." Fans believe that "someone else" refers to Selena.

He then seemingly sings about Bella as he rhymes, "But you've been with me from the beginnin'/ And I know right now that we're not talkin'/ I hope you know this d**k is still an option/ 'Cause I'll beat it up."

Fans are even more convinced after he sings the lyrics, "You were equestrian, so ride it like a champion." This is because Bella was an equestrian prior to suffering from Lyme Disease, which made her give up her aspirations of competing in the Olympics.

"My Dear Melancholy" marks The Weeknd's fourth studio album after his "Starboy". He recently collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on "Pray for Me", which served as the soundtrack to "Black Panther".
