Busiek sounds optimistic with the project and assures fans of the comics that the TV adaptation won't be disappointing. "It's a thrill to be working with Rick, Gregory and FremantleMedia on this. Everyone, at every turn, is supportive, helpful and completely focused on capturing the feel of Astro City and bringing it to life as a TV show," the scribe says in a statement.

"Astro City" spans 16 standalone yet loosely-connected story arcs featuring more than 2,000 original characters. The comics first debuted in 1995 under Image Comics before later moving to DC Comics.

"Astro City" is a mid-sized American city with the largest number of superheroes and supervillains in one place on Earth. Its universe follows ordinary people and those of the all-too-human superhumans. While dealing their collective, daily struggle, they have to face world-shaking, life-altering events which are beyond any single individual's control.

The comics won both the Eisner and Harvey Awards for Best New Series for 1996, the Eisner for Best Continuing Series for 1997 and 1998 and the Harvey for Best Continuing or Limited Series for 1998. "Astro City" also a top votegetter for the Comics Buyer's Guide Fan Award for Favorite Limited Series back in 1997. Busiek holds all rights to the franchise which allows him to sell them wherever and whenever in his favor.
