'The Crow' Reboot Starring Jason Momoa Gets Release Date
Movie

The remake of the 1994 classic to be directed by Corin Hardy is set to arrive in late fall 2019.

AceShowbiz - "The Crow" reboot has finally got a release date. The project, which has been long in development, is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on October 11, 2019, Sony Pictures has announced. Other films set to arrive on the same date are the animated adaptation of "The Addams Family", the adaptation of Nickelodeon's show "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" and the drama "The Goldfinch".

The reboot of Alex Proyas' 1994 classic has Jason Momoa attached to star as Eric Draven, who was portrayed by Brandon Lee in the original movie. Corin Hardy is set to direct the new iteration of James O'Barr's original 1989 comic book of the same name.

The reboot was previously in development at Relativity Media with various directors and actors for nearly a decade, with Jack Huston up for the lead role at one point. The project was in limbo when the company went bankrupt, before it found a new home at Sony.

"The Crow" follows rock musician Eric Draven, a man brought back to life by a supernatural crow to avenge his girlfriend's murder as well as his own at the hands of some gang members. The reboot is said to be a more faithful adaptation of the comic.

The original film grossed $50.7 million at the domestic box office and marked Brandon Lee's final role in a feature film. The actor died at the age of 28 from a gunshot wound following a fatal on-set accident. The movie got rewrite after his death and stunt double Chad Stahelski was used as a stand-in to complete the filming. CGI was used to digitally alter Stahelski's face.

The sequel, "The Crow: City of Angels" which starred Vincent Perez as the lead character Eric Draven, was released in 1996, but failed to match the success of the first film. As a result, future "Crow" sequels were released direct-to-video.
