Priah Ferguson, who portrayed Lucas' sister Erica in the sophomore season, is brought back to the third installment, while Maya Thurman-Hawke joins the cast as series regular.

AceShowbiz - "Stranger Things" season 3 is about to be more crowded than ever. After three new characters are reportedly coming to Hawkins, Indiana, Netflix has just announced that a fan-favorite from season 2 has been tapped to recur in the upcoming third season.

Priah Ferguson, who portrayed Lucas' opinionated sister Erica in the sophomore season, is brought back to the third installment of the hit Netflix series. Her group of friends will also return for the new season, in which Erica will find "herself on a wild mission to save Hawkins from a dangerous and unexpected new threat."

In addition, a new character is coming to the town of Hawkins. Maya Thurman-Hawke, the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, joins the cast as a series regular. Maya is set to portray a character named Robin, "an alternative girl who is equal parts sharp and playful. Bored with her mundane day job, she just wants a little excitement in her life... and gets more than she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins."

Previous report stated that three new characters would be joining the cast for the third season. They included slick politician Mayor Larry, a morally compromised news reporter Bruce and sweet neighborhood elder Patricia Brown. Netflix has yet to comment on the report regarding the trio.

Season 3 of "Stranger Things" is said to be weirder and more character-driven. "It's not necessarily going to be bigger in scale. What I am really excited about is giving these characters an interesting journey to go on," series creator Matt Duffer explained. The new season, which was greenlit by the streaming giant in early December last year, was also said to be "something almost weirdly more intimate."

"Stranger Things" is expected to return for season 3 in 2019 on Netflix.
