The 'Inglourious Basterds' actor and the 'Django Unchained' star land the lead roles in Tarantino's ninth film 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'.

AceShowbiz - Quentin Tarantino has tapped Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio for his next movie. Sony Pictures has announced that the two actors will star in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", which was previously set up at The Weinstein Company.

The project that will be Tarantino's ninth film is described as "a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don't recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor...Sharon Tate."

Tarantino says, "I've been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old. I'm very excited to tell this story of an L.A. and a Hollywood that don't exist anymore. And I couldn't be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff."

It was previously reported that Margot Robbie was offered the role of Tate, who was killed by Charles Manson's cult members when she was eight months pregnant with her and Roman Polanski's baby. When asked about the casting rumors, the "Suicide Squad" actress coyly responded, "Nothing's official... but I would kill to work with [Tarantino]."

Tom Cruise, Samuel L. Jackson and Jennifer Lawrence were also among actors rumored circling the movie, which was previously known as an untitled Manson Family murders project.

The upcoming film will reunite Pitt and DiCaprio with Tarantino after they worked together with the filmmaker in "Inglourious Basterds" (2009) and "Django Unchained" (2012), respectively. Pitt recently completed the filming of James Gray-directed "Ad Astra", while DiCaprio has not starred in any feature films since his Oscar-winning role in "The Revenant" (2015).

"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is set for worldwide release on August 9, 2019.
