Artist of the Week: Dua Lipa
Music

Even though she earns many achievements with her music, Lipa stays humble by saying that she feels like she still has 'little mini-victories.'

AceShowbiz - Working hard is the key to Dua Lipa's success. Beginning her music career as a mere cover singer, Lipa slowly gained attention after her second single "Be the One" was released in 2015. However, it was not until she released her fifth single "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)" that she gained worldwide attention, making her one of the prominent musicians in the world.

"Blow Your Mind (Mwah)" also became Lipa's first entry on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 72. It also topped Billboard Dance Blub Songs chart. After welcoming 2017 by releasing a Martin Garrix-assisted track titled "Scared to Be Lonely", the songstress released her self-titled debut studio album on June 2. The sixth track off the album, "New Rules", became the first song by a female solo musician to top the U.K chart since Adele's "Hello". It also became her best-selling song to date.

Following the success of the track, the British popstar was named the most streamed woman of 2017 in the U.K. by streaming service Spotify. This was because of her consistency in releasing hit tracks over the year. "It made her look like the most in-demand singer of the moment," said chart expert James Masterton, before making a reference to "New Rules". "It's no coincidence that her next release turned out to be her biggest."

Even though she earned many accomplishments with her music, Lipa stays humble. During an interview with GQ magazine, she revealed that she felt like "I still have little mini-victories, where I'm like, 'Oh, I'm so happy that I did that,' and it doesn't necessarily mean the chart positioning."

At the Brits, which will be taking place on February 21 in London, she is dubbed the top nominee, leading the pack with five nominations. Additionally, the singer/model is the first female artist to receive five nominations in a single year.

Lipa is currently working on her sophomore album. Ahead of that, she has released the music video for her song "IDGAF". She will also make her debut as the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" on February 3.
