The 'Havana' hitmaker also reveals that she decided to leave the group as the other members prevented her from writing lyrics for the group's future tracks.

AceShowbiz - Camila Cabello may have put Fifth Harmony in the past now, but that doesn't mean she hasn't been hurt by some of her former groupmates' actions. In an interview with The New York Times, the "Havana" hitmaker shares that she didn't expect to be publicly shaded by the remaining members at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.

"I wasn't expecting it, I wasn't prepared for it especially because at that point I'd moved on from it. I was just like, 'What? Why?' " she recalls, tearing up. "I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life. I don't like holding onto the past, especially when it's stuff that, in my opinion, is just petty."

Camila also reveals why she decided to leave Fifth Harmony, sharing that the tension between the girls started when she collaborated with Shawn Mendes for the 2015 hit "I Know What You Did Last Summer". Things only got worse when Camila expressed her interest in writing lyrics for future Fifth Harmony tracks, but "the other members shut her out instead."

"I was just curious and I wanted to learn and I saw all these people around me making music, writing songs and being so free," she tells the publication. "I just wanted to do that and it did not work." She then adds that the members gave her an ultimatum after they learned that Camila began attending writing sessions with producers such as Diplo, Cashmere Cat and Benny Blanco.

"It became clear that it was not possible to do solo stuff and be in the group at the same time," she says, adding that she initially wanted to stay in the group while working on her solo album. Thus, she decided to leave the group, believing that "if anyone wants to explore their individuality, it's not right for people to tell you no."
