AceShowbiz - Lorde has canceled her upcoming show in Tel Aviv, Israel less than a week after it was announced. The decision to cancel the show came after two writers from New Zealand, Nadia Abu-Shahab and Justine Sachs, wrote an open letter titled, "Dear Lorde, here's why we are urging you to boycott Israel."
In the piece, both writers noted that holding a performance in Israel "sends the wrong message. Playing in Tel Aviv will be seen as giving support to the policies of the Israeli government, even if you make no comment on the political situation."
Following the letter, organizers of the show announced that the New Zealand-born singer had canceled the show, which was supposed to be held on June 5 next year as part of her world tour. Those who already bought the tickets will get a refund within 14 business days. The singer herself has issued a statement through the organizers explaining the cancellation.
Lorde stated that she "had a lot of discussions with people holding many views, and I think the right decision at this time is to cancel the show." She added, "I pride myself on being an informed young citizen, and I had done a lot of reading and sought a lot of opinions before deciding to book a show in Tel Aviv, but I'm not too proud to admit I didn't make the right call on this one."
Concluding her statement, the "Green Light" songstress expressed her apology to her Tel Aviv fans. "It's been a dream of mine to visit this beautiful part of the world for many years, and I'm truly sorry to reverse my commitment to come play for you," she said, adding, "I hope one day we can all dance."

Responding to her decision, Israeli promoter Eran Arielli told Variety, "We forgive her." Meanwhile, Israeli culture minister Miri Regev urged the singer to reconsider her decision. "I hope she reconsider her decision," she said. "Lorde, I expect you to be a 'pure heroine' like the title of your first album, a pure heroine of culture, devoid of any foreign political, not to mention delusional, considerations."
