Carey also confirmed her appearance on the show in a joint statement with Dick Clark Productions. "We can all agree that last year didn't go exactly as planned and we are thrilled to move forward together to provide America with an incredible night of music and celebration on 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2018'," so the statement read. "See you in Times Square!"

The annual show will air live starting at 8 P.M. on December 31 on ABC. Also set to perform at the event are Camila Cabello, Nick Jonas, Bangtan Boys a.k.a BTS, Kelly Clarkson and more.

Last year, Carey's performance was a fiasco. She claimed that there were problems with her earpiece, leading her to pause her rendition of "Emotions" as she could not hear the backup vocals. "We didn't have a [sound] check for this song, so we'll just say it went to No. 1 and that's what it is, okay?" she told the crowd at the time. In the end, Carey wound up walking around the stage without singing.

After the incident, a rep for the "When You Believe" hitmaker believed that the production crew "set her up to fail," adding that her manager informed the stage crew of the issue, but they did nothing to help. "Instead of endeavoring to fix the issue so that she could perform, they went live," the rep further stated.

The production crew immediately hit back at the claim, denying that they purposely sabotaged the songstress' performance. They said in a statement that the claim was "defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd."
