AceShowbiz - A familiar face is returning for the upcoming season 3 of "Daredevil". Vincent D'Onofrio is set to reprise his role as crime boss Wilson Fisk a.k.a. The Kingpin on the Netflix and Marvel series, which stars Charlie Cox as the titular character.
The Emmy-nominated actor first played the villainous character in the first season of the critically-acclaimed series as the primary villain. D'Onofrio later made a surprise guest appearance in the sophomore season, interacting with Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) while both were in the same prison.
The Kingpin's return further fuels speculation that the new season of "Daredevil" will be inspired by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's classic Marvel Comics story "Born Again". In "Born Again", Karen Page sold Matt Murdock's secret identity as Daredevil to The Kingpin, allowing the crime boss to systematically dismantle Murdock/Daredevil in both his costumed and personal lives.
In addition, the streaming giant announces that the show will be getting a new showrunner, Erik Oleson. "Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk. We're very excited how Marvel's 'Daredevil' develops through the creative lens and guidance of our new showrunner, Erik Oleson," says EP and Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb to Deadline.
Oleson is set to take over showrunning duties in the upcoming season following the exit of Dough Petrie and Marco Ramirez as co-showrunners of season 2. Oleson most recently served as an executive producer and writer on Amazon's "The Man in the High Castle". He is no stranger to superhero series as he previously worked on The CW's "Arrow" as co-EP.
Alongside Oleson and Loeb, season 3 of "Daredevil" will be executive produced by Drew Goddard and Jim Chory. Marvel TV in association with ABC Studios produces for Netflix.
The exact premiere date for season 3 has yet to be announced, but it is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2018.
