'Nancy Drew' Series Is in the Works at NBC
TV

The new drama, which hails from the same producing team behind the 2016 CBS pilot, will have an entirely new logline and cast.

AceShowbiz - "Nancy Drew" is coming back to TV. NBC is developing the series which is based on famous children books written under the pen name Carolyn Keene. The drama, which pilot previously aired on CBS, hails from "Doubt" creators Tony Phelan and Joan Rater with Dan Jinks and CBS TV Studios producing.

Despite hailing from the same producing team behind the 2016 CBS pilot, the new drama has an entirely new logline. The new logline reads, "When the author of the most famous female teen detective series is thrust into a real-life murder mystery, who does she turn to for help? Her two best friends from childhood, who were the inspiration for all those books, and the women who have a real ax to grind about the way their supposed best friend chose to portray them all those years ago."

"We did a pilot and we tried to forget about it but we couldn't; we loved the characters so much," Rater said. "But we knew that we had to come up with a different way to go about it."

The CBS version followed Nancy, now in her 30s, who works as a detective for the NYPD. Sarah Shahi portrayed the titular character in the pilot. CBS opted not to give the pilot a series order since the drama did not come in as strong as the network hoped. The new drama is said to feature a completely different cast, should it move forward on NBC.

Nancy Drew first appeared in books in 1930 and was originally created by Edward Stratemeyer. In addition to ABC's TV adaptation back in 1970s, the franchise was adapted into feature films in 1930s and 2007, with Emma Roberts playing the famed sleuth in the latest movie.
