'Producers think that Selena would be great to join the judging panel because she'd bring in a younger crowd for ratings,' said a source.

AceShowbiz - Is Selena Gomez heading to "American Idol" as one of the judges? There has been a lot of talks about who will sit along Katy Perry in the judge panel on the revival, and a new report suggests that the "Fetish" singer is offered a spot on the show.

"Producers think that Selena would be great to join the judging panel because she'd bring in a younger crowd for ratings," says an insider to HollywoodLife.com. "She'd be considered the nice judge and they would love her to join because the impact she has with social media."

It makes sense since the former Disney darling is named the most followed person on Instagram with a whooping 127 million followers. The insider adds, "They are putting together a proposal for her and are hoping she will accept it and join the show, it's a long shot but they are taking the chance to get her. They'd love to have her signed up and all judges by mid October."

It seems like "American Idol" tries to get someone with a strong social media impact to join the show. Previously, Kim Kardashian is reportedly considered to serve as one of the judges on the show as returning host Ryan Seacrest thought she would make a good addition.

"Promotion and social media are now just as important to being a successful artist as singing and no one knows that world better than his pal Kim," said another source. The "Live with Kelly and Ryan" co-host and "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" producer was allegedly "worried that if they just follow the format of the old show, that it will feel dated. Adding Kim will be a game-changer."

Other celebrities rumored to be the frontrunners for the gig are Lionel Richie, Charlie Puth, Luke Bryan and Keith Urban. Keith previously hinted that he wouldn't be returning to "American Idol", while rumor had it that the producer was struggling to reach an agreement with Lionel as the singer's team asked for around $10 million, which is a double from initial price that ABC offered.

As for Katy, she revealed that she preferred to see Lionel and Charlie joining her as the judges. While it may be interesting to see Selena joining "American Idol", it seemingly will put Selena in a catch-22 situation because it means that she will be working with her BFF Taylor Swift's long-rumored biggest enemy Katy.

"American Idol" reboot will arrive sometime in 2018 on ABC.
