Leonardo DiCaprio to Play Leonardo da Vinci in Biopic
Movie

The casting seems to be fitting as the 'Revenant' actor was reportedly named after the famed painter/scientist.

AceShowbiz - Leonardo DiCaprio will play his namesake in an upcoming movie. The Oscar-winning actor is reportedly set to star in a biopic about famed painter/scientist Leonardo da Vinci. The movie will be based on Walter Isaacson's not-yet-published book, which rights Paramount just won after an "intense" bidding war with Universal.

According to Deadline which first reports the news, DiCaprio will also produce the film under his Appian Way banner, alongside Jennifer Davisson. Other details of the movie, including who will direct it and adapt Isaacson's book into a script, are still unknown.

Isaacson, who also wrote "Steve Jobs" which was turned into a film directed by Danny Boyle and starring Michael Fassbender, "used da Vinci's notebooks to weave a narrative that connects his art to his science and voracious curiosity and imagination. ... Isaacson also describes how Leonardo’s lifelong enthusiasm for staging theatrical productions informed his paintings and inventions. According to the book, he also was a bit of a misfit: illegitimate, gay, vegetarian, left-handed, easily distracted and at times heretical."

The casting news seems to be fitting since Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly got his name after his pregnant mother Irmalin DiCaprio felt her unborn son kicking for the first time when she was looking at a Leonardo da Vinci painting in a museum in Italy.
