Given the amount of flashbacks to the 1970s in 'Moonshadow', the episode is deemed ineligible for the category which requires at least 51 percent of the action taking place within the past 25 years.

AceShowbiz - "This Is Us" is losing one of its Emmy nominations. The Television Academy announced on Friday, August 4 that it disqualified the hit series' submission for Outstanding Contemporary Costume for a Series, Limited Series or Movie for its season 1 finale titled "Moonshadow".

"Having reviewed the 'Moonshadow' episode of 'This Is Us,' the Awards Committee noted that the entrant unfortunately miscalculated the proportion of scenes that were period versus contemporary," a Televison Academy spokesman said in a statement.

"In fact, the episode is predominately period. The entry (and subsequent nomination) are thereby disqualified," the statement continued. "The sixth-place vote-getter-now the fifth nomination-will be identified by the accountants and will be revealed when the Television Academy's final round viewing platform opens on Monday."

According to Emmy rules, a show must submit an episode where at least 51|percent| of the action takes place within the past 25 years to be eligible for consideration in the category. And unfortunately, the episode was deemed ineligible. Costume designer Hala Bahmet, assistant costume designer Marina Ray and costume supervisor Elinor Bardach were nommed for their work in the episode.

The revoking reduces the total Emmy nominations earned by the hit NBC show from 11 to 10 nominations, including nods for Drama Series, Drama Actor for stars Milo Ventimiglia and Sterling K. Brown as well as Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Chrissy Metz. Meanwhile, other shows competing in Outstanding Contemporary Costumes for a Series, Limited Series or Movie category are "Big Little Lies", "Empire", "Grace and Frankie" and "Transparent".
