Based on Daniel O'Malley's novel, the series will follow a young woman who wakes up in a London park suffering total amnesia, surrounded by dead bodies all wearing latex gloves.

AceShowbiz - Stephenie Meyer will try her hand at television series. Starz announced at the Television Critics Association's press tour on Friday, July 28 that it handed out a straight-to-series order for supernatural thriller "The Rook" from the "Twilight" creator, Lionsgate and Liberty Global.

Based on Daniel O'Malley's novel of the same name, "The Rook" revolves around "a young woman who wakes up in a London park suffering total amnesia, surrounded by dead bodies all wearing latex gloves. Pursued by shadowy paranormal adversaries, grappling with peculiar 'abilities' of her own, she must fight to uncover her past and resume her position at the head of Britain's most secret (supernatural) service... before the traitors who stole her memory can finish what they started."

Meyer is set to executive produce alongside Stephen Garrett ("The Night Manager"), who also serves as a showrunner. "We are thrilled to add the talents of Stephen Garrett and Stephenie Meyer to our creative family and forge our partnership with the Lionsgate Television Group and Liberty Global," Starz boss Chris Albrecht said. " 'The Rook' is instantly addictive from the very first scene and introduces what we believe will be one of the most fascinating and thrilling female protagonists on television."

Liberty Global chief programming officer Bruce Mann added, "We want shows that are distinctive and have a European sensibility. It's a shiny drama from a U.S. studio with a universal story, based in the U.K. with a strong female lead. We think it will travel really well."

Meanwhile, Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs and Lionsgate's president of Worldwide Television & Digital Distribution Jim Packer said in a joint statement, " 'The Rook' is a major premium property driven by an amazing creative team, and it's not only a terrific addition to the Starz platform but the perfect series to launch a content alliance with our friends at Liberty Global."

Initially being developed on Hulu, "The Rook" is scheduled to debut in the U.S. sometime in 2018 on Starz. Lionsgate will distribute the series worldwide, while Liberty Global will feature the series exclusively on demand across its footprint in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.
