'Young Sheldon' Taps Annie Potts to Play Young Meemaw

According to timeline of the spin-off, Sheldon's grandmother will have been recently widowed after his grandfather Pop-pop passed away in 1985.

AceShowbiz - "Young Sheldon" has added a new actress to its growing cast. Joining Iain Armitage and Zoe Perry on the spin-off to CBS' hit comedy "The Big Bang Theory", Annie Potts has been tapped to play a pivotal role.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the "Ghostbusters" actress is set to take a series regular role of Constance a.k.a. Meemaw, young Sheldon's (Iain) foul-mouthed, hard-drinking Texas grandmother. She is Sheldon's favorite family member as she is very supportive of him and his unique gifts. Annie will be playing a mother to Zoe's Mary Cooper.

According to timeline of "Young Sheldon", Sheldon's grandmother will have been recently widowed after his grandfather Pop-pop passed away in 1985. Meemaw has been referenced several times on "The Big Bang Theory" before eventually making an appearance in season nine with June Squibb portraying the character.

"Young Sheldon" follows 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, who is living with his family in East Texas and going to high school. Jon Favreau ("The Jungle Book") is set to direct the first episode of the half-hour single-camera series, with Jim Parsons narrating. The cast also includes Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan who will play Sheldon's father and siblings respectively.

The spin-off will premiere on Monday, September 25 at 8.30 P.M. on CBS, before moving to its regular slot on Thursdays at 8:30 P.M. starting on November 2.
