Drama Series Based on Mariah Carey's Life Is in the Works on Starz

The untitled drama series will be set in 1986 New York City and chronicle the story of the global pop singer's rise to fame after surviving 'a difficult childhood.'

AceShowbiz - Following E! docuseries "Mariah's World", Mariah Carey and Starz are reportedly working on a new fictional drama based on the life of the Grammy winner. The untitled fictional scripted drama will tackle the story of the pop singer's rise to fame.

According to Deadline, the drama will be set in 1986 New York City. It follows an ambitious bi-racial 16-year-old, an aspiring singer-songwriter, who survived a difficult childhood to become the biggest selling female music artist of all time.

Nina Colman ("Mahogany") will pen the script as well as serve as showrunner. Colman will also executive produce the potential series alongside Mariah and her longtime best friend and "Rush Hour" director Brett Ratner. Also executive producing are Golden Globe nominee Stella Bulochnikov via Magic Carpet Productions along with Ratner and Teri Weinberg.

It is not the first time for the network to work with big music stars. Starz is currently airing crime drama "Power", which is produced by 50 Cent.
