Showrunner Scott M. Gimple says the upcoming season will build off the reunions and first-time unions that unfolded in the season 7 finale.

AceShowbiz - "The Walking Dead" is not returning until this fall, but a look at its upcoming season 8 has been shared online. Entertainment Weekly has got its hand on the first photo of the season, featuring Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) together for the first time after a quite long time. Carol is carrying a gun, while Daryl is sitting on his motorcycle.

Because of their separate locations and different storylines, the show could not feature all of our favorite characters and only focused on several of them each week in the seventh season. But now that the communities of Alexandria, the Hilltop and the Kingdom have agreed to team up in the battle against Negan, we will have more chance to see them interacting to each other in season 8.

"The season finale last year, seeing all the characters together interacting as one, was thrilling. It was exciting to see all these configurations of characters we hadn't seen before. Even Aaron merely giving Jerry an apple felt satisfying," showrunner Scott M. Gimple gushes.

He goes on teasing, "This is that times a million. Though it would be cool if the season began with just everybody giving each other apples. I'd be down with that." He pauses, before adding, "But it's not that." Whatever Gimple means with that, it sounds exciting.

"The Walking Dead" season 8 will premiere in October on AMC. If the show is following the tradition, the first trailer of the new season as well as the premiere date will be unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con, which will run July 20-23.
