Rodriguez is one of only a few female cast members that has become a staple in the "Fast and Furious" franchise. Jordana Brewster, who played Dom's (Vin Diesel) sister and Brian O'Conner's (Paul Walker) wife Mia Toretto, didn't appear in the last movie, "The Fate of the Furious". Other female stars in the franchise included Gal Gadot and Elsa Pataky.

The eighth installment also added Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren as new characters. There has been rumor that a spin-off film centering on Luke Hobbs (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) is being planned, with Theron possibly becoming a part of it.
