Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop Accused by NASA of Scamming Customers With Healing Stickers

Goop has since removed representation about the wearable stickers which it promoted on its website after NASA pointed out the wrong claims about the product.

AceShowbiz - NASA called out Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop for scamming its customers with healing stickers. The lifestyle site promoted the wearable stickers, which are sold by a group called Body Vibes, in a post published on Thursday, June 22.

The website claimed that the stickers, which cost about $60 for a pack of 10, are "made with the same conductive carbon material NASA uses to line space suits" which can "rebalance the energy frequency in our bodies." According to the pitch, the stickers will "fill in the deficiencies in your reserves, creating a calming effect, smoothing out both physical tension and anxiety."

However, a NASA representative said that they "do not have any conductive carbon material lining spacesuits." Mark Shelhamer, former chief scientist at NASA's human research division, told Gizmodo that "not only is the whole premise like snake oil, the logic doesn't even hold up." Shelhamer added, "If they promote healing, why do they leave marks on the skin when they are removed. What a load of BS this is."

Goop later removed the pitch from its website. In a statement, Goop said, "The opinions expressed by the experts and companies we profile do not necessarily represent the views of [Goop.] Based on the statement from NASA, we've gone back to the company to inquire about the claim and removed the claim from our site until we get additional verification."

Meanwhile, Body Vibes has apologized for what it called a "communications error." The brand said, "We have learned that our engineer was misinformed by a distributor about the material in question, which was purchased for its unique specifications. We regret not doing our due diligence before including the distributor's information in the story of our product."

It, however, stands by "the quality and effectiveness" of its stickers.
