Bassett recently wrapped the filming on 'Black Panther' and will portray CIA director in the sixth installment of the 'Mission: Impossible' movie series.

AceShowbiz - Academy Award-nominee Angela Bassett has joined the cast of "Mission: Impossible 6". Deadline reports that the "Black Panther" actress will play the director of CIA in the sixth installment of the "Mission: Impossible" movie series. It is also reported that Bassett will start working next week, joining Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and Alec Baldwin.

Bassett recently wrapped the filming on "Black Panther", in which she plays Chadwick Boseman's on-screen mother Ramonda. She also appeared in a second season episode of Netflix's "Master of None". Bassett directed the episode "Chapter 6" on "American Horror Story: Roanoke" and made an appearance on several TV series, which include "Underground", "Close to the Enemy" and "BoJack Horseman". In 1994, she was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in "What's Love Got to Do with It".

In related news, director Christopher McQuarrie has taken to Instagram to share a photo of Ving Rhames, confirming that the actor will return to "Mission: Impossible 6". Rhames will reprise his role as Luther Stickell, Ethan Hunt's (Cruise) oldest friend.

"Mission: Impossible 6" has begun filming in Paris. McQuarrie said that "Mission: Impossible 6" would feature "very different" Ethan Hunt and would explore his character way more deeply than the previous movies did.

Besides serving as director, McQuarrie writes the script and produces the movie alongside Cruise, Don Granger, J.J. Abrams, David Ellison and Dana Goldberg.

"Mission: Impossible 6" is set to hit U.S. theaters on July 27, 2018.
