The upcoming DC movie which will be directed by James Wan is expected to begin filming this week at the Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland, Australia.

AceShowbiz - "Aquaman" is set to begin its production this week in Australia, a new report says. Courier Mail is the first to reveal that filming on the upcoming DC movie, which will be directed by "Furious 7" director James Wan, will take place at the Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland.

"The Premier [Annastacia Palaszczuk] is calling on the Federal Government to significantly boost tax incentives for big budget movies to help the Gold Coast become the next 'Hollywood'," it says. "The filming of blockbuster 'Aquaman', starting this week at Village Roadshow Studios, will create more than 600 jobs and inject more than $100 million into the local economy as the city further cements its reputation as a filming destination."

Australia and in particular Village Roadshow Studios have become a great location to film Hollywood movies in recent years. Some movies that have shot there include "Thor: Ragnarok", "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales", "The Shallows" and "San Andreas".

"Aquaman" lead actor Jason Momoa recently dished on where the movie would pick up with Arthur Curry. In a recent interview GQ, the muscled actor opened up about the movie's take on a very troubled superhero, saying, "The guy was never really accepted on land, and he was never really accepted in Atlantis."

"He's a half-breed. But he's the best of both worlds. He just doesn't know how to handle his powers," Momoa explained, adding, "So it's kind of a coming of age for a young man to a man, or a man to a king. He's lost a lot of things and he's got to cope. He's an outsider."

The upcoming DC movie is set for a December 21, 2018 release in U.S. theaters. It also stars Amber Heard as Aquaman's love interest Mera, Nicole Kidman as his mother Atlanna, and Willem Dafoe as his adviser Nuidis Vulco. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, meanwhile, joins the cast as the villainous Black Manta.
