The 36-year-old reality TV star has faced backlash after taking to Twitter to say that she's dropped 6 pounds thanks to the flu.
Kim Kardashian took to Twitter on Tuesday, April 18 to let her social media followers know that she's dropped 6 pounds thanks to the flu. The "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star joked it's an incredible way to easily lose weight.
"The flu can be an amazing diet. So happy it came in time for the Met lol," so Kim jokingly wrote, admitting that her recent bout of flu unexpectedly slimmed her down just in time for the 2017 Met Gala in N.Y.C. earlier next month. She added the hashtag #6lbsdown.
Though it seemed to be a joke, the wife of Kanye West still received a lot of criticisms from her social media followers and had to delete the tweet. Many pointed out that even though the flu's pretty common, some cases of influenza could lead to death.
Slamming the 36-year-old reality TV star for joking about the illness and seemingly suggesting women to use unhealthy techniques in order to get slim, an upset Twitter user wrote, "Now imagine saying that to your daughter after she gets sick..."
"It sends dangerous messages & supports not being healthy as a valid weight loss technique. But I wonder why eating disorders are so common," another fumed. "So the key to being skinny is starving, got it," one of her fans said, while another asked, "Can you please stop this? Illness is not a way to get slim."
Putting the backlash aside, the mom of two previously revealed that she employed the Atkins diet to help her shed the excess baby weight she gained while pregnant with daughter North and son Saint. "I've actually been doing the Atkins diet & luv it," she said back in 2013.
Speaking to E! News, Kim said, "I'm definitely to my goal weight. I'm down more than I expected." She continued in the July 2016 interview. "I think if you just really stay motivated and focused, the Atkins diet was so easy for me because there's so many sweets and treats that keep you satisfied along the way. I think with the help of all of that it's been super easy."
