Melanie Brown's ex Stephen Belafonte asks for alimony and wants to share custody of their daughter in his response to her divorce petition.

AceShowbiz - Melanie Brown's estranged husband Stephen Belafonte has filed response to her divorce papers. He is seeking spousal support from the Spice Girls alum and asks for joint custody of their minor child. He listed March 1 as their separation date, ultimately disputing Mel B's claim that they had split since late 2016.

When the 41-year-old singer filed for divorce from Stephen in March, she listed December 28 as the date of their separation. She also requested the court to reject any request for alimony. While Stephen wanted a joint custody, Mel B demanded a permanent sole custody of their five-year-old daughter Madison.

Mel B dropped bombshell this week, accusing Stephen of physically and mentally abusing her during their decade-long marriage. It reportedly led her to a suicide attempt in 2014. On a recent episode of "The Talk", Mel B's "The X Factor" co-judge Sharon Osbourne did recall seeing mysterious bruises on Mel B's body after her hospitalization that year.

"Three years ago, in the final two days of X Factor, she didn't make the first day and she was in the hospital," Sharon remembered. "And it was reported in all the papers that said 'allegedly' she's been beaten by her husband. And she came back for the final day and she had a black eye and bruising everywhere, but she made the final."
