Caesar Seeks Revenge in 'War for the Planet of the Apes' New Trailer

The nearly-three-minute video features Woody Harrelson's Colonel telling Andy Serkis' Caesar, 'No matter what you say, you'd eventually replace us. That's the law of nature.'

A new trailer for "War for the Planet of the Apes" has been released by 20th Century Fox. The nearly-three-minute video offers glimpses of Caesar (Andy Serkis) and the rest of the apes chanting, "Apes, together, strong!"

The footage shows a soldier telling Caesar, "You're him. You're Caesar. We've been searching for you for so long." Caesar responds, claiming, "I do not start this war. I fight only to protect the apes."

The trailer then jumps into a scene showing The Colonel (Woody Harrelson) telling the soldiers, "There are times when it's necessary to abandon our humanity to save humanity." Later in the video, Caesar says to the ruthless Colonel, "I offered you peace. I showed you mercy." The Colonel replies, "You talk about mercy. No matter what you say, you'd eventually replace us. That's the law of nature. So what would you've done?"

The video also features Bad Ape (Steve Zahn), who's seemingly joining the human soldiers instead of protecting the apes. "No matter what you do. You'll never be one of them," says Caesar to him.

The trailer concludes with Caesar battling the ruthless Colonel face to face. "You came to save your apes?" the Colonel asks. "I came for you," Caesar replies, before the Colonel starts to gun him down.

"War for the Planet of the Apes" follows Caesar and his apes, who are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Directed by Matt Reeves, "War for the Planet of the Apes" is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on July 14.
