'Carmichael Show' Will Air Unedited N-Word in Season 3 Because It's 'Childish'

The upcoming season 3 of the family comedy series will break a barrier in TV show history by airing the racial slur six times for an episode.

AceShowbiz - "The Carmichael Show" will soon return for its season 3 and offer something that few TV shows in history have ever done. The family comedy's new season reportedly will air unedited utterance of N-word.

" 'N-word' is childish... say it! We know what we're talking about. We're not speaking to children," the series' star and creator Jerrod Carmichael said at NBCU Summer Press Day in Beverly Hills, California on Monday, March 20. The comedian later added that the racial slur would be featured on screen "like six times" for an episode of his edgy NBC series.

The episode will air with a parental advisory notice ahead of the broadcast in its normal 9 P.M. ET Wednesday primetime slot. Other shows such as "All in the Family" and "Sanford and Son" used the word before, though cast member Loretta Devine noted at the event that it was aired "before political correctness."

"The Carmichael Show" has tackled taboo issues throughout its previous two seasons. The 30-minute show has had episodes about rape, police brutality, Black Lives Matter as well as Bill Cosby's scandal. NBC was similarly concerned about the use of the word "rape" in an episode about rape. Carmichael said, "I think I counted 21 or 22; they wanted to get it down."

Despite the controversial topics, the show has proven itself to be a critically-applauded topical show. The third season is slated to premiere on Wednesday, May 31 at 9 P.M. on NBC.
