The 'Doctor Strange' actor will portray a man who may look like an ordinary 41-year-old, but owing to an extremely rare condition, has been alive for centuries.

AceShowbiz - Benedict Cumberbatch is set to star in a fantasy drama titled "How to Stop Time", based on Matt Haig's forthcoming novel of the same name. In addition to starring in the movie, Cumberbatch will serve as executive producer through his production company SunnyMarch alongside Canongate CEO Jamie Byng.

"How to Stop Time" follows Tom Hazard (Cumberbatch), a man who may look like an ordinary 41-year-old, but owing to an extremely rare condition, has been alive for centuries. It is "a wildly imagined love story that spans centuries and continents, and cements Haig's reputation as one of the most original and exciting novelists of his generation," according to a press release.

The film is produced by SunnyMarch's managing director Adam Ackland and Nick Marston of Curtis Brown. StudioCanal is fully financing the movie and will distribute in its territories, the U.K., France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand, as well as handling international sales.

"We are delighted to be continuing our successful relationship with Matt Haig as well as build upon our long-running and dynamic partnership with SunnyMarch, Benedict Cumberbatch and Adam Ackland," StudioCanal CEO Danny Perkins shared. "This compelling novel will make for a powerful film that falls in line with StudioCanal's ongoing commitment to British talent, storytelling and production. We look forward to bringing it to audiences around the world."

Meanwhile, Haig said in a statement, "The prospect of Benedict Cumberbatch playing Tom Hazard is a hugely exciting one and I could not be happier about working with Adam and Jamie, and to be reunited with StudioCanal."

Cumberbatch is currently busy reprising his role as Doctor Strange in "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Avengers: Infinity War". The actor is also starring as real-life genius inventor Thomas Edison in "The Current War" alongside Nicholas Hoult and Tom Holland.
