Williams will star alongside Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Donald Grover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo in the 'Star Wars' spin-off.

AceShowbiz - Han Solo standalone movie has just added a new cast as filming gets underway. According to Variety, "The Wire" actor Michael K. Williams will join Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo to join the untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II.

Williams is known for his role as Omar on HBO's "The Wire". Back in 2016, he starred on "Hap and Leonard" and appeared on HBO's "The Night Of". Currently, Williams plays Ken Jones on the ABC event series "When We Rise". Williams' feature film credits include "The Land", "Triple 9", "Ghostbusters", "When the Bough Breaks" and "Assassin's Creed".

Like blockbuster "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", Han Solo standalone movie will focus on the event before "Star Wars: A New Hope". Plot detail hasn't been announced yet, but the spin-off may focus on how Han Solo becomes a smuggler we know. The character was magnificently portrayed by Harrison Ford in the original "Star Wars" movies and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

Ehrenreich will play younger Han Solo in the spin-off, while Glover and Suatamo will play Han Solo's buddies Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca respectively. Harrelson will portray Han's mentor and Waller-Bridge will play female droid. The roles of Clarke, Newton and Williams haven't been announced yet.

The Han Solo movie is scheduled to be released sometime in 2018.
