'Kong: Skull Island' Gets 'Apocalypse Now'-Style IMAX Poster, Reveals 'Godzilla' Connection Details

The 'King Kong' reboot goes full-on 'Apocalypse Now' with its new IMAX poster as the connection details between the giant apes and monstrous lizard have been unveiled.

AceShowbiz - Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures have unveiled a new 70s-look IMAX poster for "Kong: Skull Island". The poster clearly pays tribute to classic Vietnam war pic "Apocalypse Now", just like what it has promised in the first trailer.

IMAX's official Twitter account posted the brand new poster on February 1. The poster features a big Kong's face over-layering a background photo which bears a strong resemblance to the 1979 movie's poster. They captioned it, "Monster do exist. Come face-to-face with the king in our exclusive art for #KongSkullIsland!"

Along with the brilliant poster, details of how Kong connects to "Godzilla" are revealed, although the two stories take place approximately 40 years apart. The connection speculation between the monsters first sparked after a Comic-Con poster, which hinted at the link between those Legendary Pictures' giant creatures, emerged.

"Kong: Skull Island" producer, Alex Garcia, spilled some hints regarding the connection to Cinema Blend. She said that Captain James Conrad, a tracker and former British Special Air Service soldier portrayed by Tom Hiddleston, would encounter "a team of Monarch operatives" towards the end of the Vietnam War on an expedition to Skull Island. The team is a little shady as it turns out to be a part of a mysterious Monarch organization that had secretly known about Godzilla in 2014's "Godzilla".

"It's a landslide expedition, officially, but John Goodman, who plays the guy from Monarch, is sort of pulling the strings in the background and we come to realize obviously that they knew much more than they let on initially," the producer explained.

However, Garcia confirmed that the "King Kong" reboot would be "very much just Kong's story" as "Godzilla is not emerged into the modern world" at this point in the cinematic timeline. Although the giant lizard won't appear in the upcoming Kong movie, the two monsters are scheduled to fight against each other in the upcoming "Godzilla vs. Kong" slated for a 2020 release.

"Kong: Skull Island" follows a diverse team of scientists, soldiers, and adventurers who unite to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, as dangerous as it is beautiful. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.

The movie, which is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, will also star Brie Larson as a war photographer named Weaver, Samuel L. Jackson as Lieutenant Colonel Packard, John C. Reilly as Marlow, Toby Kebbell as Maj. Chapman and Jason Mitchell as Glenn Mill. From a script penned by Dan Gilroy and Max Borenstein, the movie is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on March 10.
