The 'Gotham' actor has been tapped to portray Sarek, Spock's father who has made several appearance throughout the franchise over the past five decades.

AceShowbiz - CBS All Access has announced that "Star Trek: Discovery" has been pushed back from its May premiere date. There's no further announcement about new premiere date for the series yet.

Meanwhile, a representative for the network said that production of the series would begin next week. "We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created," the rep shared.

"This is an ambitious project, we will be flexible on a launch date if it's best for the show," said the rep in a statement. "We've said from the beginning it's more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn't beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows."

Despite the delay, "Star Trek: Discovery" has good news for fans. The series has tapped James Frain to play Spock's father Sarek. The character was first introduced in the original "Star Trek" movie and he has made several appearance throughout the franchise over the past five decades.

The series also stars Michelle Yeoh as the Starfleet captain Georgiou, Doug Jones as Starfleet science officer Lt. Saru, Anthony Rapp as astromycologist Lt. Stamets, Chris Obi as Klingon leader T'Kuvma, Shazad Latif as Klingon commanding officer Kol and Mary Chieffo as L'Rell, the battle deck commander of Klingon ship.
